MOUNT LONGONOT

Mount Longonot

Mt. Longonot is a 9,111-foot volcanic mountain with a crater 600 feet deep, almost 4 Km in diameter and there are steam jets shooting out of the bottom of the crater. It is at least a 1hr walk to the crater rim and allow 2-3 hours for a circuit of the almost perfectly circular crater. The path is quite steep at times, so be prepared for many breaks and make sure you carry plenty of water. Mount Longonot is a Kenya Wildlife Services park and is excellently looked after. Hire a friendly ranger, if you want, to lead you up and inform you about the volcano.

1-DAY TRIP

Longonot is a 1 hour drive from Nairobi, close to Hell's Gate safari park. We depart at 9.00 am and aim to finish the hike/walk in time to have lunch at a lodge.
